Safety Todd’s Tip of the Month for July: Safety in the Workplace

On December 29, 1970, the Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act was passed, giving the Federal Government authority to set and enforce safety and health standards for many of America’s workers. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, is the agency tasked with overseeing and enforcing current safety standards.

Employers are required to provide their workers with a safe and healthy workplace, free of known hazards that could adversely affect the employee’s health. There are many benefits to a safer work environment:

  • Employees tend to be more productive when they feel safe.
  • Worker compensation insurance costs are less for industry when there are fewer costly accidents.
  • Work production is more efficient when workers do not need to be replaced due to injuries and illnesses.
  • Avoid poor image that can occur when the company experience’s a high rate of injuries.

These are just a few good reasons to promote safety in the workplace.

One great way to improve worker safety is by providing safety training that identifies the hazards workers may face in their job. The OSHA 10 Hour General Industry course offered by A-C-T dives into specific hazards and ways to reduce and eliminate those hazards in key areas such as: electrical safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, walking/working surfaces, machine guarding, understanding OSHA standards, personal protective equipment, hazard communication and emergency planning.

Our instructors hold advanced degrees in occupational safety and health and conduct the class with a high level of energy that will keep students engaged. Our approach to safety training is different from most of our competitors; we provide numerous props and devices to illustrate examples of past industrial accidents. Students will have the opportunity to see and touch hundreds of PPE items used in today’s work setting.

A-C-T’s training center is centrally located in Florida and provides a comfortable and conducive environment for learning. The center is equipped with a café area should you request lunch be provided during training.
